Gala Opening
Monday, July 20, 7:30 PM
Location: St. Mark's Anglican Church
Ticket Price: $35 - Concert only. $50 - Concert and reception
The Gala Opening is always a sparkling event, featuring exceptional music accompanied by an opportunity to mingle with many of the musicians, friends and sponsors of Music Niagara at a sumptuous reception following the concert. This year the Gala celebrates the music of Felix Mendelssohn, on the 200th anniversary of his birth, as well as work by Bach, whom he rediscovered and returned to the concert stage. In the spirit of continuing great musical traditions, Music Niagara has commissioned a new work by Canadian composer Peter Tiefenbach for the occasion. And who better to interpret these works than the talented artists appearing at the gala, artists who reflect Music Niagara's signature dedication to great international talents of today and Canadian talents of tomorrow. African-Russian pianist Ellen Annor-Adjei, whose work has been hailed as "emotional, passionate, and technically brilliant,"makes her debut with Music Niagara on this evening. Music Niagara is also proud to present Bora Kim, a festival veteran at 16, and this year's first prize winner of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra concerto competition; she will perform as a soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in their 2009-10 season at Roy Thompson Hall. We hope you will join us for the launch of our spectacular second decade!
